Check out this new magazine

I just completed a new feature article that is going to appear in a new online magazine. It will be in the premiere issue of Chaos Magazine: http://www.chaos-mag.com/

The web site is there now, but the articles appear Dec. 15, 2008. My article is a feature story about Christian Wach, an 18-year-old surfer from Southern California. Chaos Magazine is a very hip, cool fashion magazine based in New York City. Where else? Check it out. It's very fun!

Things are changing ...

Welcome to my updated blog. I'm changing things around a bit and plan to add more as soon as possible. I will be posting samples of my work and other items related to my writing. Stay tuned! Please come back often and leave me some comments!

One Night Stand

I knew it was time to leave the news business when I realized that being a news reporter was like having one-night-stands every day at work. It's not that far of a stretch if you think about it. I would call a source and ask for an interview, knowing the source most likely did not want to be interviewed. I would re-work my angel, ask again politely and always include some explanation that made the source feel he or she really wanted to be part of the story. "Telling your story could help many other readers," I would say often. Eventually, I would get the interview (most times). During the interview, I was asking for details, sometimes personal information, and then including that in the story. Oftentimes, the stories were dramatic and heartbreaking. As soon as I would get the interview I needed, the story was written, edited, printed and complete. I was done with that source. A one-night stand. Next source, please.

Where did Summer Go?

It's always sad to see summer come to an end. When the kids go back to school, it really sinks in. The evenings are cooler, the days are shorter. I love autumn, but I always want summer to hang on a little while longer!

I have submitted my second travel article to Wave Journey, an online travel web site that features travels by women. The new article was written about a day trip to Minneapolis, featuring the Mall of America, a great Japanese dinner and a terrific English pub.

The Magic of Christmas

What's on your Christmas wish list? Are you dreaming of a new toy? A better job? A better relationship? Share your wishes with the rest of us. I'm wishing that a publisher will buy my manuscript for my first children's book. The Cactus Man is sure to be a favorite ... if it ever gets published! Wish me better luck in 2008.
